During Lockdown, I’ve reinvented my approach to Online Teaching with enthusiasm, creativity, and a ceaseless desire to help more people of all ages achieve success in learning Italian.

​My passion for Italy and a drive to finding different ways to reaching this goal have paved the road to some unique experiences and exceptional relationships with both existing and new students,

MY EXPERIENCE...
The following is an outline of my current and past experiences. Each period has provided an opportunity to learn, grow, and continue developing both as a person and a professional. Take a look to learn more about me.
ITALY, SANREMO
WHERE IT ALL BEGAN...
From the age of 10, I went to an Italian Boarding School for 5 years:
They taught me the History, Geography and the Culture of Italy.
​
I learned to love Italy and everything Italian:
The People, the Food, the Sun, the Sea and their Chaotic Ways!
At such a young age the accent and idioms are automatically absorbed, especially when nobody else spoke any English!
​
I soon felt like I had Italian blood in my veins
and managed to pass all 9 high school subjects in Italian.
FRANCE, CANNES
THE OTHER RIVIERA:
Languages came naturally to me, as did my love for the Mediterranean, so when I was sent across the border to an International School, I was very happy and I started helping out with other fellow foreign students who were not quite as adept,
being their first time abroad, so were struggling with foreign 'pronunciation'.

At just 16, I started to devise a method of how to help them correct this issue...
and I made many thankful friends.
​
I left Cannes with a Mention Honorable of the Alliance Française Exam, but Italy
still remained my 1st love.
MODENA & Le MARCHE
From TEACHING to EXHIBITIONS

Back in Italy I soon started teaching English to Italian companies at the New Benedict School of Languages
in Modena, including Ferrari.
I then continued both interpreting and translating Italian for all kinds of
Italian companies.
​
I also spent over 16 years working in Conferences, Incentive Travel and organising Exhibitions all over the world as International Sales & Marketing Director of Reed’s Italian office in Modena.
We helped thousands of Italian companies get their goods onto the world markets...
So, I also really understand what Business needs are, with regards to working with Italy and the Italians.

ENGLISH 4 ITALIANS, UK
In 1994, I returned to the U.K. to set up: "Residential" courses
for Italian Business Professionals: based on
their individual business requirements.
​
Whatever the profession, I helped many adults gain confidence and pronounce their individual "technical terminology" to get them closer to their clients
by setting up: "English 4 Italians"
in the Lancashire countryside, where they
immersed themselves "full time" in all things English for at least a month at a time, with my Residential Courses,
based mainly on Conversation Skills.

LE CLUB Français
Besides working extensively for years with busy adult Professionals who needed to learn a language rapidly to stay on top of their international market,
for over 5 years,
I also organised my local branch of
"Le Club Français franchise"
(a selection of after-school Language Clubs for children between 5 and 11 years old).
This is where many of my "quirky tips" to make a language fun came from, which makes it easier to remember:
"We should all notice how children learn..."
LE MARCHE, ITALY
In 2005, I relocated back to the Marche Region of Italy, where after a substantial renovation project, I intended to set up a Language School in 2008.
But battling with earthquake confrontations & the pull of my Family in the UK , brought me back to the U.K. to renew the
Residential Stay for Italians & French.

I also found more mature English adults were wanting to learn much more than just "Holiday Italian Courses" so I set about finding better ways to help them too...
... and we never stopped even during the various Lockdowns, inventing new Ways.
My Method: relax, enjoy, learn like a child might...
THE FOUNDATIONS
We can all understand 'something' of another language
If we relaxed a bit more, we would soon see that lots of English words actually have their roots in 'foreign' words; others we recognise from foods or having heard them on holiday... Listening and observing, rather than forcing ourselves to talk, would get us a long way to feeling part of what is going on around us when in Italy: by fixing these in our Brain.
BUILDING BLOCKS
Let's get started with useful sentences for you...
So first we look to finding the topics, which interest you the most: listening and understanding selected words and sentences that you would like to one day be able to talk about... Being able to pick these out when the locals speak... then add a smile and you will soon connect you with the Italians around you. They just love people who just try to speak!
PRONUNCIATION
Can English speaking people have a decent accent?
You don't need thousands of words, just for the ones you use most to be understood well. Let's spend just a little time making groups of words that follow a sound pattern; forget what your high school teacher told you about "you'll never have a decent accent..." You can!
YOUR GOALS
WHY are you learning Italian?
It is very important for me to understand the exact "why" you want to learn Italian now. Knowing this is how I personalise what we shall be concentrating on, everyone is an individual in their needs: Be it business, love of culture and art, or simply the food and wine, or maybe you have family over there you'd love to connect with better.
Another great reason is just to keep your brain cells motivated and active, it's so important!
To GRAMMAR, or NOT?
Do we need it?
If you have ever done a building or renovation project you know that sound foundations are the path to paving the way to a successful project. Nowadays there are many different types and ways to go about it... well it is the same way with 'grammar' : quality, not quantity is the way to go. You will not even notice it ;-)
LEARN what you need first
Children can, parrots can...,
Can you?
LISTEN, a lot... and absorb, then choose what matters to you and that you really need to say. Be selective! Do you really need to learn list of numbers, months, zoo animals, clothes and furniture? I find out what your goals are and then choose what sort of sentences to work on:
whether for business, pleasure or memory mind exercises.

One to One
During the various Lockdowns, I met up online with many of my students
on a 1-2-1 basis
and we kept busy with lots of positive topics and did a lot of Online travelling, visiting Italian towns and Museums and working through the descriptions in Italian together.

Phoning in from home, any time you want, and you can even bring your pet along to help you be more relaxed.
I can be flexible and
work around your schedule.
